I believe that the way our current political system is run is no longer representative of individuals. We have become so torn and divided that we no longer vote for candidates who we actually want – instead we vote for the lesser of two evils.
In order to fix this problem endemic to the system we need to enact some policies to get rid of the corruption, the dynasties, and the political elite.
Ending the two party system
We have been led to believe that we have only two options since the founding of America. Unfortunately, this myth has been perpetuated into today’s elections. “If I don’t vote for X then Y will win.” Instead of voting for who we want, we are presented with two nearly identical bad options and told to choose. In order to break the system all we need is the courage to vote for the other options.
There are candidates out there who have been politicians their whole lives. We call them “career politicians” and the entire idea of that is antithetical to the idea of a representative democracy. By enacting term limits on every office we can start to move away from supporting dynasties within our government.
Political corruption is one of the largest challenges faced by our current political climate. Time and time again we see top government officials taking roundabout kick backs and “contributions” in exchange for direct benefits. This is due to a lack of watch dogs and out of control election super PACs. We need more visibility and transparency into the government.
