America has taken an active role in world politics for too long. As a country we’ve been at war for roughly 93% of our existence. It’s time for us to start to refocus on ourselves and fix the problems we face at home. For me this means, scaling down our military operations, reducing foreign aid, and Immigration reform.
We’re projected to spend nearly 600 billion on our military this year alone without many tangible gains for the American people. Our military is no longer focused on defending our borders and is instead used to police other countries. Additionally, the spending is largely on weapons that will literally never be used in combat – instead of spending on weapons that will never be used, why not invest it in technologies which will actually be useful outside of military applications? Let’s start focusing on scaling back our active involvement in foreign conflicts and give peace a chance.
We give billions of dollars in foreign aid, much of which only goes to corrupt leadership. We need to figure out a better way to help the disadvantaged in other countries. We need to be smarter about how we help and what role we should play.
I believe that immigration is one of the founding bedrocks of our country – we have since deviated from being a melting pot. I think that we should make it easier to become a legal citizen. At the same time I believe that illegal immigration is a serious issue that needs to be addressed. We need to figure out a way to expedite legal immigration in order to end illegal immigration.
